Review: Permaculture Design Certification Course

From Febuary 24th to March 12th we held our first Permaculture Design Certification Course at Jiwa Damai. The group consisted of 30 participants coming from India, Australia, USA, Germany, Austria and Bali.

The internationally renowned teachers Rico Zook and Jeremiah Kidd did a great job in teaching the class.

One part of the PCD course was theoretical learning in the 'classroom'. Here the participants are introduced to the various flows in nature.

The other part was practical hands-on-experience in the organic garden. Here our group is learning to measure the PH content of the soil.

During the 16 days course the participants were instructed to create IMO, indigenous microorganisms, using bamboo, cooked rice and sugar. This mixture needs to ferment for 4 days and then this fungus can be used to fertilize compost to create a larger stock.

Permaculture through the Heart

BALI Internship: Permaculture Through the Heart

May 15 - June 14, 2013

This innovative program blends the core principles of tropical Permaculture gardening with Self exploration from a transpersonal psychological perspective. "Experiencing Permaculture through the heart" presents a unique opportunity to combine class room Permaculture learning with “hands-on” experience, complementing the active physical engagement with the soil with an inner attitude of loving alignment with the earth. The internship is a combination of personal growth processes, allowing our heart energy to flow into our work with the earth, environment, water, soil, plants and people. This program is the first of its kind, working with the psychological framework of the mind, theoretical Permaculture principles, design and planning, planting, harvesting and food preparation - all in alignment with the heart energy.

“Permaculture through the Heart” is a modular seminar. You can choose if you want to book the entire program or if you only want to book the 1. and/or 2. week.

Organic Cacao from Bali

cacao-01

cacao-01

In our organic garden we have several cacao trees. This cacao fruit is not ripe yet...

When ripe, the skin of the fruit turns a more orange color.

This is a fresh cacao fruit, picked right off the tree.

After harvesting, we dry the fresh beans. The essence of chocolate are contained in these air dried beans, picked fresh from our organic garden. Packed with very important minerals such as magnesium and iron, the health benefits of raw cacao are immense.

Enjoy them on their own or ground with a little brown sugar, they are a perfect addition to any dessert.

Article about Jiwa Damai

One of our guests, Simon Bradley, who stayed with us for 3 weeks wrote a beautiful article about Jiwa Damai, which is published on the website 'weekend notes'.

What a find to unwind

Our needs were simple. We required a break in a secluded location to relax, meditate and detox. We had three weeks to spare but didn't want to break the bank. Our search led us to

Jiwa Damai Bali Retreat

located about 20 minutes from Ubud, Bali.

with a little help

...from our friends... Jiwa Damai is developing and blooming. ;-) One of our great volunteers, Justin from Chicago, gave a wonderful contribution to Jiwa Damai.

Justin helped us very much to improve our website and to promote our organic products. He designed a new label for our products, for our product line, and photographed all the items. He then uploaded all pics, along with new product descriptions to our website.

TERIMA KASIH !!

Balinese Passion Fruit

This is one of our lumbungs, located in the middle of our permaculture garden, surrounded by fields with organic veggies and fruit. A passion fruit plant has grown over the roof of our garden Lumbung and by now it  covers the whole straw roof.

The plant carries plentiful fruit, but they are not ready to harvest yet. The fruit needs to get more yellow.

The ripe passion fruit, after cutting it open, contains juicy brown seeds with a sweet-sour taste. Very refreshing!
