Organic Cacao from Bali

In our organic garden we have several cacao trees. This cacao fruit is not ripe yet...

When ripe, the skin of the fruit turns a more orange color.

This is a fresh cacao fruit, picked right off the tree.

After harvesting, we dry the fresh beans. The essence of chocolate are contained in these air dried beans, picked fresh from our organic garden. Packed with very important minerals such as magnesium and iron, the health benefits of raw cacao are immense.

Enjoy them on their own or ground with a little brown sugar, they are a perfect addition to any dessert.

Article about Jiwa Damai

One of our guests, Simon Bradley, who stayed with us for 3 weeks wrote a beautiful article about Jiwa Damai, which is published on the website 'weekend notes'.

What a find to unwind

Our needs were simple. We required a break in a secluded location to relax, meditate and detox. We had three weeks to spare but didn't want to break the bank. Our search led us to

Jiwa Damai Bali Retreat

located about 20 minutes from Ubud, Bali.

with a little help

...from our friends... Jiwa Damai is developing and blooming. ;-) One of our great volunteers, Justin from Chicago, gave a wonderful contribution to Jiwa Damai.

Justin helped us very much to improve our website and to promote our organic products. He designed a new label for our products, for our product line, and photographed all the items. He then uploaded all pics, along with new product descriptions to our website.

TERIMA KASIH !!

Balinese Passion Fruit

This is one of our lumbungs, located in the middle of our permaculture garden, surrounded by fields with organic veggies and fruit. A passion fruit plant has grown over the roof of our garden Lumbung and by now it  covers the whole straw roof.

The plant carries plentiful fruit, but they are not ready to harvest yet. The fruit needs to get more yellow.

The ripe passion fruit, after cutting it open, contains juicy brown seeds with a sweet-sour taste. Very refreshing!

Permaculture Design Certification Course

PDC ad 3

PDC ad 3

We at Jiwa Damai are extending an invitation throughout the world in hopes of reaching people interested in joining us in Bali for our Permaculture Certification Course, from February 24th to March 12th. Jiwa Damai is an agro-permaculture center located fifteen minutes outside of Ubud in the district of Mambal. The lush surroundings of the retreat center include a diverse array of flora and fauna that make it an ideal environment for students to be exposed to many different learning opportunities.

In addition, we are also offering a 4 week internship, Permaculture Through The Heart, from May 1st - 29th. Participants have the option of taking each of the first two weeks separately if desired. Week 1 covers classical permaculture techniques. Week 2 is unfolding the HeartSelf-intelligence; an experiential transpersonal psychological approach to self exploration. These core principles will be combined for the final two weeks in the form of group and individual environmental projects.

If you would like a more detailed description of our program, we invite you to visit our website through the link provided below.

Cleansing of the lotus pond

pond

pond

Recently we had to clean the lotus pond at Jiwa Damai, since it was overgrowing with weeds.

Aitor and Justin, our two volunteers, as well as Wira, Jiwa Damai's coordinator, were getting ready to get into the mud of the lotus pond. To avoid possible skin irritations they covered their legs with large plastic bags, which are held at the top of the legs with tapes.

However once they were in the pond, they found the mud quite agreeable and liked to walk and work in it, more like a mud bath.

The growing weeds were pulled out and then the roots separated from the leaves which are used as mulch for our garden. In the ponds also grow large amounts of cancun, Balinese spinach which we use in our kitchen. Most probably we will eat Balinese spinach for the next three days. ;-)
